Attacking Gas Prices

This is an idea for a very simple ad.

{Picture of pump with gas price in district the day before the 2004 election}
This was the price of gas when {name} was elected to the Republican Majority.

{Picture of pump at summer peak}
This was the price this summer at its peak.

{Picture of pump with $??.??}
Look at the price on November 7

{morph into "+$##.##" ... size of jump}

Add this much.

Can you risk a Republican Majority for another two years?

Re: Attacking Gas Prices (none / 0)

It would have worked fine that way but it looks like prices will fall until election day so...

Instead:

Average up the amount of gas used by constituents during the GOP reign.  Figure out the amount they spent on it and make sure that figure gets out there.

Re: Attacking Gas Prices (none / 0)

Change the frame ... a simple "look at gas prices, they are horrible" would have worked.

But where were gas prices November 2004 ... $1.93?

People forget, and confuse the downward bump on an upward ratchet with a downward trend.

Reset ... electing Republicans at $1.93 led to $3.00. Electing Republicans at, say, $2.30 will lead to ... ?
